A chronic inflammatory skin condition that primarily affects the face, Rosacea is characterized by persistent redness, visible blood vessels (telangiectasia) and inflammatory papular and pustular flare-ups. Rosacea can be caused by a number of conditions, including vascular dysregulation, an overactive immune response and genetic predisposition, and triggers like UV exposure, heat, spicy food, alcohol, stress and certain skincare products.
Different subtypes of Rosacea include:
- Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea (ETR) - persistent redness and visible capillaries
- Papulopustular Rosacea - inflammatory breakouts resembling acne
- Phymatous Rosacea - thickened skin, often affecting the nose (rhinophyma)
- Ocular Rosacea - irritation, dryness and redness affecting the eyes
A dysfunction of the superficial blood vessels closer to the surface of the skin, treatments for Rosacea focus on reducing inflammation, strengthening the skin’s barrier, and minimizing vascular dilation. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and vascular lasers are extremely effective at targeting excessive redness and visible capillaries. Topical and oral medications (metronidazole, azelaic acid, ivermectin, low-dose doxycycline) can manage inflammation. Using broad-spectrum SPF protection can also provide an essential barrier to UX exposure, a prime aggravating factor of Rosacea.
Although Rosacea can be mistaken for acne or skin irritation, it’s actually linked to skin sensitivity and inflammation, not clogged pores. Presenting as persistent redness, visible blood vessels, and sensitive flare-ups, the good news is that it can be very effectively managed using a combination of the right treatments, a tailored skincare routine, and understanding which lifestyle habits trigger your particular condition.
Advanced technologies like IPL therapy can reduce facial redness, calm inflammation and minimise visible capillaries; gentle, medical-grade skincare can soothe and protect the skin; and avoiding things like heat, alcohol, spicy food and stress can also help stop flare-ups.
Working with you to understand the specifics of your Rosacea, we can help you achieve clearer, calmer and more confident skin, reducing redness and improving your overall complexion for wonderful, long-term skin health you can be proud of.

Does this treatment always work?
Based on our experience IPL treatment always delivers an improvement to rosacea, however the number of treatments required can be difficult to predict until after the first treatment as it will depend on the severity of the condition. We would typically recommend a series of 3 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart, after which we would usually suggest every 3-6 months for maintenance.
