Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive sweating not related to heat or physical activity. The body uses sweat as a form of temperature control in order to cool itself but in some cases this can go wrong. In severe cases the sweating can be so intense that it soaks through clothing, significantly impacting daily life and leading to social anxiety and embarrassment.
Thankfully there’s help readily available thanks to an unlikely skincare staple. To lean into the science, excessive underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis) occurs when heightened nerve signals drive overactive sweat glands. Botulinum toxin (yes, you’ve guessed it – Botox!) can effectively manage this condition by blocking acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction, stopping the activation of sweat glands. Lasting between 4 to 6 months, the reduction in sweat production significantly alleviates symptoms and improves quality of life. In fact, with continued treatment, many clients find that they can extend the time between sessions as the condition becomes more manageable.
It’s an easy fix for a problem many clients initially feel too embarrassed to talk about. Once we start their treatment, they often wonder what took them so long to talk to us!
